Cornus mas (yellow)

    Cornus mas (yellow)

      Description

This deciduous shrub or small tree has a rounded habit and offers year-round interest. Thriving in zones 4-8, it performs well in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained soils, though it tolerates a range of conditions. It produces clusters of small, bright yellow flowers in late winter to early spring, offering an early food source for pollinators. In fall, its glossy green foliage transitions to shades of reddish-purple. It also bears bright red, oblong fruits in late summer, which are both visually appealing and edible, often used in jams or jellies. Typically growing to a height of 15-25 feet with a similar spread, this plant has moderate deer resistance. Its attractive shape and multi-season interest make it an excellent choice for wildlife gardens, hedges, or as a specimen plant.
