Fuchsia magellanica 'Tom Thumb'
DETAILS AND CARE
This compact, deciduous shrub features a mounding habit and produces small, graceful, pendulous flowers with bright magenta sepals and deep purple petals throughout the summer and into early autumn. Hardy in zones 6-9, it thrives in temperatures between 55-75°F, preferring partial shade. Its foliage remains a lush green, with no significant fall color, and it does not produce ornamental fruit. Ideal for borders, containers, or as an underplanting in woodland gardens, it prefers well-drained, fertile soil that retains some moisture. Reaching a mature height of around 18-24 inches and spreading similarly wide, it is compact in form, making it suitable for smaller spaces. While it is not entirely deer-resistant, it demonstrates moderate resistance when alternative food sources are available. A charming addition to any landscape, this shrub brings vibrant color and elegance.
