Helleborus HGC® ICE N' ROSES® 'MERLOT'

Helleborus 'Merlot' is a stunning, early-blooming perennial prized for its large, outward-facing, wine-red to deep plum blooms that emerge in late winter to early spring, often while snow is still on the ground. Gardeners love it for its exceptional cold hardiness, long-lasting flowers, and elegant, leathery evergreen foliage that provides year-round interest. It's perfect for brightening shady garden beds, woodland settings, under deciduous trees, or as a sophisticated addition to mixed borders and containers. This low-maintenance plant thrives with minimal care once established, preferring consistent moisture and good drainage in its first few seasons.

Plant in part shade to full shade in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Amend clay soils with compost. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a light mulch to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Remove old, damaged leaves in late winter before new flower stalks emerge to showcase the blooms. Avoid frequent division; plants are long-lived and prefer to be left undisturbed.
