Hosta 'Ben Vernooij'

Hosta 'Ben Vernooij' is a vigorous and visually striking perennial prized for its large, thick leaves that emerge gold in spring and gradually mature to a rich dark green with dramatic puckering. This robust plant produces tall scapes of pale lavender flowers in midsummer, adding a lovely vertical accent. Perfect for lighting up shady borders, woodland gardens, or as a bold container specimen, its substantial foliage provides excellent texture and contrast. It's easy to grow, thrives in consistent moisture with good drainage, and is known for its slug resistance and excellent deer resistance.

Plant in part shade to full shade in rich, moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during hot, dry periods. Apply a layer of mulch to retain moisture and keep roots cool. Remove spent flower scapes to keep the plant looking tidy. Divide large clumps in early spring or fall to propagate and maintain vigor.
