Magnolia x 'Susan' (purple)
DETAILS AND CARE
This compact, deciduous shrub or small tree features an upright, rounded habit and is prized for its stunning, purple, goblet-shaped flowers that bloom in mid to late spring before the foliage fully emerges. It is recommended for Zones 4-8, thriving in areas with moderate temperatures and full sun to partial shade. The glossy, green leaves turn yellow in fall, adding seasonal interest. Growing to an average height of 8-12 feet, this plant has a mature width of 6-10 feet and is deer resistant. Preferring moist, well-drained, slightly acidic soils, it is an excellent choice for small gardens, borders, or as a specimen plant. It produces no significant fruit and maintains an attractive, multi-stemmed form that provides year-round visual appeal.
