This deciduous shrub boasts an upright, arching habit, reaching a mature height of approximately 5-6 feet, with a slightly smaller spread. Hardy in Zones 3-7, it thrives in temperatures ranging from -40°F to 0°F. The foliage emerges with a vibrant dark burgundy hue, transitioning to rich purple tones in cooler temperatures, providing striking fall color. Clusters of soft pink, button-like flowers appear in late spring to early summer, adding seasonal interest. It produces small ornamental seed capsules that attract wildlife but are not edible. Best planted in well-drained soil, it tolerates a range of soil types, including sandy or clay soils.
