DETAILS AND CARE

A versatile evergreen shrub or small tree with a dense, bushy, and upright habit, perfect for hedging or standalone displays. Recommended for USDA Hardiness Zones 6-9, it thrives in mild climates, tolerating temperatures down to approximately -10°F. Its glossy, dark green leaves provide year-round interest, and in late spring, it produces small, fragrant white flowers in upright racemes, attracting pollinators. These are followed by small, dark red to black ornamental fruits that are loved by birds. While it shows no notable fall color change, its year-round foliage remains a standout feature. It prefers well-drained, moist soils but adapts to a variety of conditions, including clay or sandy soils, as long as they are not waterlogged. Typically growing 10-20 feet tall with a spread of 10-15 feet, it exhibits a pyramidal to rounded shape when mature. Deer resistance is moderate, and it performs well in urban settings where moderate pollution tolerance is needed.
