Syringa vulgaris 'Ludwig Spaeth' (purple)

This deciduous shrub boasts an upright, multi-stemmed habit with an oval to rounded shape, reaching a mature height of 10–12 feet. Recommended for USDA hardiness zones 3–7, it thrives in full sun and prefers well-drained, rich loamy soil. In late spring, it produces abundant, highly fragrant, deep purple single flowers in large, showy panicles, adding a burst of vivid color to the landscape. While it offers no distinctive fall color, its foliage creates an attractive green backdrop throughout the growing season.
